"Elvica" refit and reconstruction - Continued...

While framing commenced at the bows, the lower transom planks were removed, and the highly deteriorated bolts that hold the transom framing together were extracted and replaced.

Now the transom was planked up, using 5/8" thick inner planks of Douglas fir and 3/4" thick outer planks of teak glued to the inner planking and with tight, edge-glued seams to create a strong, attractive transom. A new, upgraded swim step was built and installed.

Once the framing was completed, the new Douglas fir hull planking was installed, with many planks being 40 feet long.
